Oprah Winfrey Apologetics

Oprah Winfrey, who claims to be a Christian, has been increasingly advocating New Age theology (e.g., she says, "I believe God is in all things") and denying that Jesus is the only way of salvation (e.g., she has said, "One of the mistakes that human beings make is believing that there is only one way...there are many paths to what you call God." And elsewhere, "I am a Christian who believes that there are certainly many more paths to God other than Christianity").

In addition to leading people astray from the truth on her television and radio programs, she is leading them astray through her book recommendations. In 2007 she promoted a book called The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (see our article below that addresses this book's content). In 2008 she promoted a book called A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle that again espouses numerous New Age doctrines (monism: "We are all one," and panentheism: "God is in all things"). Al Mohler summarizes the religion she espouses: "Oprah’s newly-packaged positive-thinking spirituality is tailor-made for the empty souls of our postmodern age. She promises meaning without truth, acceptance without judgment, and fulfillment without self-denial."

THE NEW SPIRITUALITY: A Christian response to Oprah Winfrey, Deepak Chopra, and other new age adherents’ views on reincarnation, moral relativism, religious syncretism, pantheism, human divinity, and more
(DVD) by Charlie Campbell

Millions of people today say, “I’m not religious, but I am spiritual.” Many of them have left behind the religions they were raised in and adopted several new beliefs being promoted by Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, and others. Several of these beliefs come from what is known as “new age spirituality” or more recently, just “the new spirituality.” But are the beliefs really new? Will humans be reincarnated after death? Are we one with the universe? Are there no moral absolutes? Are all religions equal? Are humans divine? Charlie Campbell answers these questions and others in a visual presentation recorded before a live church congregation in San Juan Capistrano, California. 53 minutes. 2018 edition.

Oprah God Josh Mcdowell

by Josh McDowell and Dave Sterrett

This book provides an in-depth look at one of the greatest media influences of all time: the empire of Oprah. Between The Oprah Winfrey Show and O Magazine, millions of people are exposed to Oprah's spiritual beliefs. Christians and those of other faiths are asking tough questions and looking for answers. McDowell and Sterrett approach the spirituality of Oprah by means of a fictional narrative featuring conversation between two friends. The spiritual conversation begins when the two girls get together to discuss spiritual issues. By using stories to address the deeper issues raised in the spiritual conversations held by Oprah and her friends, McDowell and Sterrett disarm and entertain their readers while also revealing biblical truths and exposing the errant teachings and misconceptions of Oprah. McDowell and Sterrett broach a serious subject with a wise, balanced, easy-to-read approach that helps readers discern the truth about the spirituality of Oprah and her friends.
